The art of enamel has long history, going back to ancient Egypt, Byzantium, medieval Limoges and Vienna Modern era. Ukraine also has its own enamel art traditions. Enamel can be found in Scythian gold jewelry and decorations of Kiev Rus era, in religious objects of Ukrainian Baroque era. Since late 19th century enamel art started to develop as easel art, but was partially abandoned in Soviet period. Nowadays a resurgence in enamel-based art takes place in Ukraine.
