The collection of china- and earthenware products manufactured at porcelain and faience enterprises of Ukraine of the ХVІІІ-ХХ c. occupies a fitting place in the collection of the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art. The displayed artworks give a clear idea of the ways of change and development of artistic styles and trends, which combine emulation of the best European models and at the same time an incarnation of inherent features of national culture thus defining their identity.
The first domestic enterprises began to work in the late 18th and early 19th c. It was at this time that the Korets Porcelain Factory (1784-1831), Baranivka Porcelain Factory (founded in 1803), Horodnytsia Porcelain Factory (founded in 1807) commence production in Volyn district of Western Ukraine.
Early pieces bear the characteristic features of the classical style, which at that time was dominant. The elegance of the silhouette, the clarity of the proportions and the careful elaboration of the details, the noble restraint of the decor are characteristics of the products of the Korets factory. Gilded decorations advantageously emphasize the white color of porcelain. A large group of products is decorated with polychrome paintings.

Floral ornaments with flowers, bouquets, garlands of oak leaves, leaves, grapes and monograms are predominant. A bouquet of flowers in the center of the plate and three branches on the sides can be seen more often in the decoration of plates. This type of decoration was used at Korets and Baraninka porcelain factories.
The first Baranovka products stylistically gravitate towards the Empire style, but then the decorating becomes more complicated.

The assortment of items of the Horodnytsia porcelain factory was quite wide. Interesting examples of the enterprise's production are the dry tea bottle in the form of a quadrangular prism and an openwork vase for fruits, decorated with polychrome painted ornaments.
In addition to large factories, many small works also existed in Ukraine. The collection includes products of the Emilchinsky Porcelain Factory (second half of the 1820's - 1852), Bilotinsky (1850-1880's), Barashivka (1854 – 1910s), Romanovsky (1860 – 1880s), Kamianobrodskyy (founded in 1874).
The centrepiece of the collection are the items made by the Volokitino Porcelain Factory (1839 – 1861). The first products of the enterprise are still marked by classicistic features, but the greatest influence was made by the artistic rebirth of the style named "second Rococo". The works of this period are characterized by the magnificence and exuberance of forms, rich decorations, typical for this factory techniques such as tinting, gilding, using of relief, stucco, and painting.

The true masterpieces of the museum collection are products of the Kiev-Mezhyhiria Faience Factory (1798-1877).
Forms and decorations of Mezhyhiria vases clearly expressed features of the Empire style with its imitation of ancient forms, proportions, stories and ornamental motifs. In their decoration applied relief, modeling, printed drawings, which were organically combined with monochromatic glazing.
The art of porcelain of the 20th c. already formed on new principles, due to the spread of avant-garde trends.

Artists of the 1930's developed a campaign direction in their work.
At the turn of the millennium, Ukrainian porcelain has a new stage in its development. The main feature of modern porcelain - the emphasis on symbolic, expressive characteristics of objects and often secondary role of their utilitarian purpose. Freely imagining, focusing on traditional forms, contemporary artists tend to give porcelain objects a new style, creatively rethink and transform them, to fully identify the plastic nature of the material.
